Women and Girls’ Education in Africa:
Progress, Barriers, and the Path Forward
- presenter Mr. Fazil Mukisa, CEO, IhalalaUganda
Saturday, March 21st, 2026 - 8AM PST
Across Africa, important strides have been made toward gender equality in education. In several countries, gender parity in primary school enrollment has been achieved, and in some regions, girls are graduating at higher rates than boys. Yet despite this progress, approximately 50 million girls in Sub-Saharan Africa remain out of school, and deep regional disparities persist—particularly in West and Central Africa, where inequality in access, retention, and learning outcomes remains severe.
This webinar will explore the current status of women and girls’ education across the continent, examine the structural and cultural barriers limiting access and success, and highlight promising initiatives aimed at closing the gap. Participants will gain insight into how education shapes economic empowerment, health outcomes, and leadership opportunities for women and girls—and what must be done to ensure sustainable progress.
