Ashour obtained his MATESOL from Portland State University in the state of Oregon, USA. His research interests lie in Sociolinguistics and Arabic Sociolinguistics. His MA thesis was devoted to the “Code Switching between Tamazight and Arabic in the first Libyan Berber News Broadcast: An Application of Myers-Scotton's MLF and 3-M Models”. He is interested in language issues in North Africa in general, and in Libya in particular. His research includes topics such as (Linguistic Landscape Analysis, Language Policy, Taboos and Euphemisms, and Code-Switching). He lectures on the cultural and linguistic rights of the Tuareg and the Amazigh in Libya, and in the constitution in particular. He advocates the rights of Libyan women who are married to non-Libyan nationals to grant their children Libyan nationality. He trains people on Gender Sensitive Active Non-violence issues, advocacy, and networking.
